Can I trust Gifts to Sudan?
You should not have to trust us on our word alone, so we made every step checkable. Gifts to Sudan (giftstosudan.org) is a volunteer initiative, not a registered charity. Donations buy food and household goods in Sudan's local markets, which volunteers give to families as gifts, recorded in a public ledger. We started on 1 November 2026, so we are new, and we say so.
What are you, and what are you not?
- A volunteer initiative, run by unpaid volunteers. Nobody is paid from what you give.
- Not a registered charity, with no licence of any kind. Gifts to us are not tax-deductible.
- New: we started on 1 November 2026, so we have no long track record yet. The ledger is our track record, row by row, from the first gift.
- Becoming a non-profit: we plan to register as a non-profit organisation, and anyone who would like to be part of it can write to info@giftstosudan.org (how to join).
How can I check you myself?
- Follow the money in the public ledger. Every gift received is a row with its date, network, amount and a link to the public blockchain, so you can see for yourself that it arrived.
- See what it bought. Each purchase in Sudan is a BOUGHT row with its receipt (personal details masked), and each hand-over is a GIVEN row under a family code.
- Check that nothing changed later. Each month's ledger is a CSV file with a SHA-256 fingerprint: if a row were edited afterwards, the fingerprint would no longer match. A mistake is fixed with a new row, never by deleting.
- Check the address before you send. Our only wallet addresses are on the Give page. Compare the first and last six characters, and never copy an address from a message or from your wallet history.
- Read the whole road. How it works shows every step from your wallet to a family's door, and who pays each fee (we do, on our side).
- Ask us. Write to info@giftstosudan.org or use the contact form. A volunteer reads every message.
What should make me suspicious?
Anyone who asks you for money for Gifts to Sudan by WhatsApp, phone or private message is not us. We never ask that way, and our addresses are only on this website. Please tell us at info@giftstosudan.org if it happens.
What can you not show me yet?
We do not yet have an outside reviewer: today, you are the checker. We are looking for an independent volunteer to check a random sample of rows against the proofs every quarter, and we will say so here when one has started. We publish no family names, faces or towns, to keep people safe, so you follow each gift by its code and its receipt instead.

What if I prefer a registered charity?
That is a good choice too. Look for a registered charity in your own country that works in Sudan, and check its registration with your country's charity regulator before you give. Our questions page says more.
