Questions people ask us
Are you a registered charity?
No, not yet, and we hold no licence. We are a volunteer initiative run by volunteers. We say this on every page where it matters.
Where does my crypto go, step by step?
It arrives in our wallet. The volunteers convert it to local currency through an exchange, buy goods in Sudan's markets with a receipt for each purchase, and give them to families as gifts. Fees on our side are covered by us and shown in the ledger.
Can I choose what my gift becomes?
Yes. On the Give page, choose dates from Sudanese farmers, poultry, a small poultry farm (planned, none started yet), grain, or wherever it is most needed. We honour it where we can and say so honestly when we cannot.
How do you deal with sanctions?
When a gift is checked with "Check my gift", its sending addresses are checked automatically against the public OFAC SDN list of crypto addresses; a match is held for review and not shown or spent. Before giving, the volunteers check the names of the people they give to against public sanctions lists.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
No, in no country, for now.
Which coins can I send?
USDT on TRON (TRC-20) and USDC on Base. Nothing else, and only on those networks.
What if I send on the wrong network?
It may be lost for good. Write to us with the transaction link and we will try, but we cannot promise to recover it.
How do I know my gift arrived?
Paste your transaction hash into "Check my gift" on the Give page, or find it in the ledger's IN tab. Then follow it to BOUGHT and GIVEN.
Do you take a cut?
No. Volunteers are unpaid; we cover the fees on our side ourselves; 100% of what arrives buys gifts.
Why goods and not cash?
Because we give families a gift, not "charity" in their hand. The family tells us what they need, and the volunteers buy it and give it to them.
Can I give zakat?
Not yet. We accept sadaqah and gifts only for now. Ask a scholar you trust about your own zakat.
Do you help people of every background?
Yes. Help goes to anyone in need, whatever their tribe, side or faith.
Why can't I see the families?
To keep them safe. Names, faces and places can put people in danger. Codes and receipts let you follow every gift without that risk.
Can I send a message to a family?
Yes. Email it with your transaction link; a volunteer copies it by hand onto a card.
Can I give by bank transfer or card?
Not at the moment. We start with crypto only. We will announce any new way on this website, and only here.
I prefer a registered charity. Where can I give?
Look for a registered charity in your own country that works in Sudan, and check its registration with your country's charity regulator before you give. That is the honest route if you need a receipt or a tax deduction.
Someone messaged me asking for money for you. Is it real?
No. We never ask for money by WhatsApp, phone or private message. Please tell us at info@giftstosudan.org.
